Also starting the same school on the same day was his brother Albert William Hamlin.

William was awarded the Victory Medal for his service in the Navy during World War One.

William joined the Army on 3 March 1900 and was discharged on 30 November 1902 at Exeter, Devon because he was found medically unfit for further service. He then joined the Navy on 26 August 1906 and was in service until 26 June 1918.

She never married or had children. Beatrice Mabel Whitworth (Hamlin) daughter was the informer. Beatrice married Edward Dennis Whitworth on 19 September 1931 in St Paul Church, Battersea, London.
