General:
On the 1881 census along with Robert was a Sarah Brown who was 31 years of age, she is shown as a servant. Along with her was a 3 year old Robert K Brown, who could be Sarah's son and perhaps Robert was the father.

One of Robert and Maria Knights children was a Maria Knights was baptised on 24 April 1831 in Nacton, Suffolk. In 1849 she had a son Robert Knights (baptised at Nacton on 15 January 1849), and in 1860 Maria Knights was found guilty of "not guilty of a willfull murder of a child but guilty of secreting it's birth". She was employed as a cook at a farm in Sproughton when she gave birth to a female child who was found dead shortly after the birth. After the inquest verdict which was held at the Sproughton Wild Man Inn, she was taken first to Ipswich prison and then to Bury St Edmunds where she was found guilty and sent to prison for two years. Her son Robert Knights at the time of the 1851 census was living with Robert and Maria Knights, her parents.

After release from prison she married John Porter Ralph in 1869 and as far as can be told she had no children with him. She died on 22 October 1896 while living in Ipswich and was burred in Ipswich Cemetery on 27 October 1896.

Another of Robert and Maria Knights children was a Mary Ann Knights who was born in 1842 in Nacton and on 24 September 1860 she went into the Nacton Workhouse and admitted to another person that she was pregnant but that she burred that her baby would not be born alive. On the 29th September she left the workhouse on 1st October she and her mother went to a chemist in Ipswich, Suffolk for a emmemogue which is a substance which increases menstrual flow and should be avoided during pregnancy. On the 27th they went to a Dr Taylor and he examined Mary Ann Knights and confirmed that she had recently been confined. No body of a baby was found.
